What is a maintenance shift?
A maintenance shift with the Vancouver Free Fridge Project is a volunteer opportunity where a volunteer visits a fridge location to (non-exhaustive list):
- Check food dates and fridge temps to ensure safety
- Wipe down surfaces to maintain cleanliness
- Check maintenance supply stock (wipes, gloves, etc.)
- Occasionally remove trash/non-accepted items
- Take a few photos of current inventory before you leave the fridge
- Post updates and inventory pictures in the Slack app
Maintenance shifts usually take around 15-30 minutes and can be done at your convenience. Fridges operate 24/7, so you can complete your shift when it works for you. Get in touch with us on Slack to become a maintenance volunteer!
Once you download the Slack app, introduce yourself in the #social_introductions channel and a member of our committee will get it touch with you to get you started volunteering.
